Friending Me

In light of recent odd friendings by all-Russian language journals I ask that you contact me before or immediately after friending me. You can leave a message introducing yourself here or in any of my public posts. However, if these mass-friendings continue then I will be locking the majority of my currently public posts.

You might have found me through one of the many comms I belong to. That's fine, but at least do me the courtesy of saying hello.

I *will not* automatically friend back as most of my personal entries are friends-locked and I won't open them to just any stranger off the board. I am also fiercely protective of my LJ friends and won't open their comments to my f-locked entries to strangers either.

NOTE: Since these all-Russian language journals are often spam bots I will report them. I'll let LJ abuse sort it out. If you friend me, comment. If not I will assume you're a spam bot after personal info and/or trying to commit identity fraud. And LJ Admin have made things a heck of a lot easier with this link

I'm no bot... add me! XD
Nov. 23rd, 2008 06:31 am (UTC)
Added :D I've seen you around I think. Are you in NZ too??
Nov. 23rd, 2008 07:10 am (UTC)
LoL nope. You've seen me in the FTM forum. I'm a goth FTM living in Singapore but is dying to move to the Netherlands. I'm Dorian and I'm 21. Nice to meet you. =p

That's it, wasn't sure if it was just in the forum I'd seen ya in or if I'd seen your username in our local transguys group. So it's in the FTM group :D

Howdy Dorian, I'm Alex, great to meet you and thanks for the add!

Likewise! XD

I have no idea who you are, but I cannot stop watching your icon.

Thanks a lot.

Hahahaha, I know! Even I can stop looking at it... 0_0

I've been friended by random Russian journals too. I just ignore them, perhaps I will report the next one. I don't post much, but I do try to do good comment. ;-)
Jan. 10th, 2009 05:18 am (UTC)
LOL, you do good comment (I know already between Drowningmermaid's comments and mine too)!

I didn't worry about the Russian ones at first but it was irritating. And the comment was made somewhere that they could have something embedded in their posts/links/userpage that is a virus/spyware that deploys when you click it. Or they could hang out hoping to collect email/personal infof or some nefarious purpose. I report the ones on my red_trillium journal. I"m undecided about my pinepig journal because that's where I post my CafePress and Zazzle shop info and I figure if nothing else it's a free advertising ploy for me. Still debating reporting those (and have on on red_tril to report again).

i did not know that the danger is so big...
hope you would not report me commenting in your journal, i am not hang around, just passing by, stayed too long cos of your nice photos of NZ. Haere ra. Larisa
Feb. 20th, 2010 07:49 pm (UTC)
Haere Mai Larisa! No no, you are definitely not one I would report. The ones that are bots don't comment, only friend as many people as they can (usually 999 I think or something like that) but no communities. They don't have much in their profile and only a couple 'entries' that are usually stolen from other journals. They don't comment either so I knew when you commented that you were a real person :)

Thank you for your comments and compliments.

sorry, misunderstanding.
embarrassing for Russian language journals, bad popularity make me feel to make my journal fully english, but some of my russian good friends cant read english. so i better stay how i am and take heat lol

wishing you and your family good week in beautiful NZ
Feb. 22nd, 2010 08:18 am (UTC)
No need to feel embarrassed. Being an American, I often am painted with the bad brush of some of my countrymen as well. And I have known Russians, met a few in university so I know it's not all, just a small group here giving the rest of you a bad name! Don't be ashamed to write in Russian, especially if your friends don't speak or read English! If you had English entries I would have friended you but since I can't read Russian (I tried to learn a little when I was a teen but that was about 25 years ago or so! and I didn't get very far as it was!) I thought I wouldn't be able to comment much.

Please do feel free to stop in anytime & comment. I put both public and private entries up so you'll at least see the public ones, especially if there are photos!

hey I friended you!

:) Friended back

I used to be eaglecrash, who used to be darth_sekhmet. I seem to remember that you were fairly awesome, and I'm not sure why you are no longer on my f-list. Then again, I abandoned my journal for quite some time.

I remember you! I was on your Eaglecrash friends list for a long time and then one day realised I hadn't heard from you so I checked and think I'd been de-friended. I knew you had a lot of intense personal stuff going on and figured maybe you needed some privacy. I was sad but I respect that, I knew we'd had some good comment-chats. But you're back so I'll friend you again :) Yay, thank you for looking me up!

Fair warning: I'm in the middle of a semi-grumbly post :( Things are tough right now but I'm trying to get through it all day by day. And non-warning: I went on a vacation to the South Island with my wife and have been putting my shots up at Webshots and posting here (along with photos of us) when I upload there (check my recent posts, mostly public or my "photos" tags if you have some free time).

You made my night. Thank you for that. I'm going off to friend you now!

Hope you don't mind my friending you!

I'm Amy!

Hi Amy, I'm Alex! Nope, don't mind at all. I'll add ya now. You'll get used to my odd timing for replies, NZ time and we're heading into summer now so I'll be out and about more often, not commenting a ton.

Welcome! Pull up a seat and make yourself comfortable. Grab some virtual snacks and don't be afraid to jump in. It's a good group here, nice people and we tend to be quite varied in interests and backgrounds. I do a lot of different types of posts, work grumbles, kitty posts, photos, gardening.... I've got a couple internet shops and you'll see posts about them too.

New Friend
I saw you over on crowdfunding and followed you here. You're welcome to drop by my LJ, where I often talk about crowdfunding. I also feature excerpts of crowdfunded projects over on "Hypatia's Hoard of Reviews" at:

Re: New Friend
Cool, I've added you back. I post sporadically and comment about the same amount. Being in the Southern Hemisphere & a completely different time zone means I do comment & post at odd times.

:) Welcome to my world.

Re: New Friend
I'm happy to be here.

I have some other friends in the Southern Hemisphere, mostly in Australia and New Zealand. I enjoy the different perspectives!

My blogging these days is temporarily downgraded due to outside distractions, however it's long been the case that I post more at LJ than at DW. It's partly the difference in the f-list and what I think might interest them. I was wondering whether to add you to my LJ list. What do you think? There are a small number of people I read at both, and the rest I read either at one place or the other.

Anyway, hope the tooth extraction went well.
Jun. 2nd, 2010 10:07 am (UTC)
Yep, that's fine! I tend to hit my DW list first for reading and comments now but I'm happy to add you here. :)

The extraction went as well as can be expected.

Danged Russians! Once upon a time, I was a Cold Warrior, you know. Didn't trust 'em then, don't trust 'em now.

P.S. Thanks for the latest round of post cards. I really need to get off my butt and send you all the ones I've been collecting for you. =)

You are welcome! I finally got to see The Hobbit a couple weeks ago and thought of you when I saw Radghast :)

Just finished my Relay last weekend & am pretty darned exhausted. I will do a post soon with a couple picts (still doing the picts). I did 16kms and raised $660NZ :) So far our team has raised about $3800NZ, short of my $5000 goal but still not bad. The good thing is that a lot of the team members are really energised by Relay this year & want to help grow it and take part next year. Fingers crossed they do.
